Effective in December 1971 at about serial number 4,700,000 along with the chamber the bores were chromed, early ones were marked C MP B. Starting in 1974 and after serial number 4,900,000 chrome bores were marked C MP CHROME BORE. This marking was used all the way until the end of M16A1 production. C is colt, MP is magnetic particle inspected and Chrome bore is obvious. If selling to a collector who wants original parts it makes a big difference. If it is a shooter it makes almost no difference in value. Some like certain barrel makers over others. Features: Bird Cage Flash Supperessor with split waasher,20' pencil barrel marked C MP CHROME BORE, Triangle handguards attached with a slip ring, not delta ring, C H on upper receiver's right side, no forward assist, no brass deflector, C marked bolt carrier group, slotted pivot.

C Mp Chrome Bore
Good afternoon. I recently purchased a Colt SP1 (R6000), which based off of the serial number dates to 1975. What concerns me is that the barrel markings read 'MP CHROME BORE'. My understanding and research tells me that there should always be a 'C' marking on Colt rifles. It is common knowledge that Colt just used whatever parts they had available (including Govt. contract parts) and I cannot find any conclusive info on the inter-webs, so I am hoping that some of you Colt experts can set me straight on the matter. Somewhere I was reading that there is sometimes a marking on the barrel between the FSP clamps, but I see nothing there either. My fear is that this rifle was re-barreled at some point or the upper is not Colt. Your expertise is appreciated.
